I know it appears that we have not done anything in awhile, but this is not the case. Our church has a great new website that is much easier to update. The YAFFO group has their schedule on the church's website (http://www.ascension-norfolk.org/?category_name=yaffo).

May 1st Gathering

Our next gathering is on May 1st at Wade and Tiffany's home. We will be doing some Christian ice breakers. For some reason, I cannot manage a copy and paste right now. March Gathering

Our last gathering was snowed out! I know, you never thought you would hear that about Norfolk. We have rescheduled for March 27th at 7pm. The Wards are hosting. Contact Samantha at the church if you are interested but not on the e-mail list.

Read the 2 page article on Christianity Today about some Christian’s inability to admit they are Christians and watch the clip of “The Really Big Favor” on Mr. Deity. Then consider a couple questions.
Mr. Deity tends to highlight the ridiculous side of Christianity. In this particular video we see what is commonly called “The scandal of the cross.” Are there some things about out faith that are hard for you to accept? Is there a possibility the hardest things to accept are in fact the most important things? Who would make that up? Read the article in light of these questions and prepare to discuss both.

August Gathering set

Young (er) Adults

Yes, that's right we are forming a new group. The things about groups based on age is that people age. It's totally natural! Since our group has become more and more geared to young families, we have formed a new group for people in their 20's. This group has a facebook page. If you are interested in this group, please e-mail me and I can give you the details. People are encouraged to go to whatever group they feel more comfortable. If you are 25 and want to go to both groups, that is fine to. We are just trying to meet the needs of more people.

July Gathering

Since we did not meet in June, I am sure you are all anxious to get back into the swing of things for our meeting in July. Carter and Virginia offered to host on July 18th. We already have a topic, which is a lecture by AJ Jacobs on living the Bible for a year. It is about a 20 minute lecture that you can find on the website below. It is pretty interesting, and even if you cannot attend, I would watch it. If you are an overachiever, you can read the book that the lecture is based on.

March Gathering

We have a tentative date for March 28th. We will be having a beer tasting and playing cards. I am not exactly sure what that is going to look like, but it is sure to be fun. We will have it at the church and there will be childcare provided.

February Gatherings

On February 19th, we will make a meal for the Mission of the Holy Spirit. We can always use help with shopping, cooking, serving and cleaning!

On February 28th, we will meet at the home of Chris and Sara for food and discussion. We will be discussing one of the lectionary readings.

January Gathering

I realize it has been awhile since I have last posted. It is not because we have not done anything. We met in November but decided not to meet in December due to busy schedules. We did fix dinner for the Mission of the Holy Spirit in November and December. Our next gathering will be on January 10th at the home of Virginia and Carter. We will be discussing The Shack. Please read that so we can discuss it. Virginia will be sending out more details as the date draws closer.

Monthly gathering

The next YAFFO (young adult) gathering will be Sunday, May 4th at the home of Virginia and Carter Ward. The prep work is a survey called: “What kind of Christian are you?” It will take about 10 minutes, and is not mandatory for attendance. We will discuss our results and some of the more intriguing questions. Further details will go out a week prior via e-mail. If you are not on the e-mail list, please talk to Samantha. Bowling Practice

We will go bowling on Saturday, March 29th. Right now the plan is to go to Bowlerama on Military Highway that evening. Wade will be getting out more details soon.

Nest Dinner

The Bowling Challenge

YANSY (young and not so young) have challenged YAFOO (young and far from old) to a bowling match. Since it will be a high stakes the game, we felt it would be good to have a practice in March. Our March gathering will be a bowling night at the end of March. More details will come soon.

Mission of the Holy Spirit

Christmas Party

The date has been set for the Christmas Party. It is Saturday, Dec. 1st. The party will start at 7pm here at the church. Babysitting is available. Let me know if you will be taking advantage of the babysitting. We will be doing a Chinese gift Exchange. Please bring a gift for under $10. Please also bring a tasty treat or beverage.

Outreach Opportunity

Church of the Ascension Young Adults

Church of the Ascension is an Episcopal Church in Norfolk, Virginia. We have an awesome group of young adults (20's & 30's) who meet once a month. We meet to have dinner and some faith related discussion. Often we talk about books. Sometimes we have movies or just discussion questions. We also meet for purely social events. These events have included: family picnic, wine and cheese, murder mystery dinner, etc.
